The Hornets fell to ShenVal Swarm 16A on Sunday in the semifinals of the USA One Champion National Qualifier 3-1. The Swarm scattered five hits, picking up a run in the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Despite putting runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings the Hornets failed to plate a run. In the bottom of the fourth, a single between two walks loaded the bases with one out, but the Hornets were only able to push one run across the plate before ShenVal got out of the jam and time expired.
Severna Park went 2-1 on the weekend and didn't concede a run in their first two games thanks to strong pitching from Julia Duvall and Belle Richmond and solid defense. While opposing teams struggled to reach base, the Hornet's catchers made sure they didn't get very far if they did. Morgan Rausch and Meghan Karns threw out all three would-be base stealers on Saturday. Karns also had a great weekend at the plate, going 5 for 7 and raising her average to over .400 on the season.
Emelyse Carney continued her hot hitting, going 5 for 9, including three doubles, and Alex Burroughs racked up five stolen bases and scored five times on the weekend.
The Hornets are back on the field October 18th and 19th at the USA Legendary Softball Showcase Showdown in Virginia Beach, VA.
