SP Green Hornets Shine at Legendary Softball Showcase Showdown
The SP Green Hornets faced off against formidable opponents from Virginia during the Legendary Softball Showcase Showdown held on October 18th and 19th.
Day One Highlights
With only nine players in the lineup on Saturday, the Hornets leaned heavily on pitcher, Belle Richmond. Richmond rose to the occasion, throwing an impressive 10 innings on the first day, appearing to gain momentum as the afternoon progressed. In the second game, she scattered nine hits over six innings against Unity, leading the Hornets to a narrow 4-3 victory. Richmond struck out five batters and did not issue a single walk, bringing the Hornets’ record to 1-1 on the day after a tough loss to Titan NOVA in their opener.
Offensively, the Hornets were powered by the strong performances of Rowan Hass, Andrea Rom, Meghan Karns, and Alex Burroughs, each contributing two hits throughout the day. Rom and Morgan Rausch both drove in two runs, while Burroughs excelled on the bases, scoring three times.
Day Two Highlights
Richmond continued her stellar pitching into Sunday, supported by the Hornets' reliable defense, which remained error-free. The Hornets’ bats exploded in their matchup against the Williamsburg Revolution, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Richmond pitched two shutout innings before handing the ball to Julia Duvall, who also delivered two shutout innings. The Hornets added two runs in the third and one more in the fourth, sealing a commanding 10-0 victory.
In their final game of the tournament, Duvall took to the circle against a tough Orion Hunter Elite squad. Despite the Hornets managing only two hits over five innings, Duvall kept the team competitive until the top of the fifth inning, when Orion capitalized on two errors and two well-placed infield hits to score three runs, ultimately leading to a 4-0 loss that concluded the weekend.
Standout Performers
Andrea Rom was the lone Hornet to hit successfully in all four games. Rowan Hass, Meghan Karns, Alex Burroughs, and Morgan Rausch also made significant contributions at the plate, each collecting multiple hits over the weekend. Rom and Rausch led the team with three RBIs, while Karns boasted an impressive OPS of 1.055, highlighted by a triple in game three. Additionally, Tori Dantinne, Ella Kassel, and Emelyse Carney combined for four RBIs and four runs scored, anchoring the left side of the Hornets' defense in left field, shortstop, and third base, respectively.
